The former Police Station in The Avenue In December 2020 RW Estates submitted a Planning Application for the demolition of this fine 19th century house and the building of five new dwellings on this site. All meetings in the Mayoralty Room scheduled until the end of October have regrettably been cancelled because of the Coronavirus. It is hoped that they can be rescheduled at a later date.
Tiverton Civic Society supports the view that we should all, both individually and collectively, urgently act to combat the causes of climatic change. Predicted global effects of increasing average temperatures are: 0.5°C safety 1.3°C irreversible feedbacks (now) 1.5°C severe danger 2°C extreme danger 2.5°C approaching hell 3°C horror 3.5°C death of organised society 4°C human survival in doubt 5°C extinction possible 6°C extinction likely 7°C current trajectory.

Under the auspices of Tiverton Town Council regular meetings are now being held between all major stakeholders to urgently discuss the complex issue of the restoration of flow to the Town Leat. Topics include land ownership, the costs of restoration and fundraising.
An acclaimed new book has recently been published about a Tiverton family in WW2 ‘To War with the Walkers. Three Soldiers, the War Bride, the Nurse and a Doctor. One Family’s Extraordinary Story of Survival in the Second World War’ (Hodder) by Annabel Venning (2019). ‘Once read, never forgotten’ (Ysenda Graham in The Times). The Walker family lived at Tara, Belmont Road, Tiverton. The book is now available in paperback, and the author will be talking about the book via zoom at our meeting on Tuesday, May 11th 2021.
